Fatal motorcycle crash jams traffic on westbound 134 Freeway
Three lanes of the westbound 134 Freeway are closed, snarling traffic through the Burbank and Glendale areas after a fatal motorcycle crash early Tuesday, a spokesman from the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers received calls about a downed motorcycle on the 134 Freeway near the transition to the 5 Freeway at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday. CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said the motorcycle was found down in lanes and the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was described as being in his “late 20s or early 30s,” but Villalobos could not provide immediately additional details on the crash, which he said is under investigation. Villalobos said it was not clear if other vehicles were involved, but no additional injuries have been reported.
The crash forced closure of all but the far left lane and backed up westbound traffic past the 2 Freeway, Villalobos said. Officials issued a SigAlert around 7 a.m. and expect the three blocked lanes to reopen around 9 a.m., he said.
CHP officials are suggesting drivers use the 2 Freeway and take surface streets to avoid the jam.
