10 horses killed in fire at a Montebello stable
Ten horses died in a fire that broke out just after midnight Sunday at a Montebello stable, authorities said.
About 80 firefighters from four departments responded to the fire on the 300 block of Bluff Road and knocked down the blaze in about two hours, said Montebello Fire Department Battalion Chief Richard Fredrickson.
“We lost about 20,000 square feet of stable and 10 horses,” Fredrickson said.
The stable, which appeared to rent spaces for local horse owners, was largely consumed by the fire, but 22 other horses were safely evacuated, Fredrickson said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Fredrickson said.
