One person was killed Wednesday evening in a five-vehicle crash at a Paramount intersection that police believe was caused by street racing.

The collision happened about 7:30 p.m. at Orange Avenue and Somerset Boulevard, Lt. Eric Lindblom with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood station told KTLA-TV.

Lindblom said two Chevy trucks were believed to be street racing northbound on Orange Avenue as they approached the intersection.

One of the trucks made it through the intersection. A second one crashed with a 2004 Ford pickup, causing the five-car pileup.

A person inside the Ford was taken to a hospital and later died, Lindblom said.

Five other people were also taken hospitals. Two of them were reportedly in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevy truck involved in the crash was taken into custody, Lindblom said.

The second pickup didn’t stop and was being sought by police. The vehicle was described as black, two-door Chevy pickup.
