A man suspected of stabbing family members with a pair of scissors was fatally shot Saturday by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies during a confrontation in Pico Rivera, authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the 3400 block of Greenglade Avenue about 4:45 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. No deputies were injured and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

Deputies were responding to a call involving a 50-year-old man with mental health issues who was allegedly attacking family members with scissors, authorities said.

Two deputies arrived on the scene and encountered the suspect in the street, authorities said. The man refused orders to drop “a sharp bladed object” in his right hand and aggressively approached the deputies.

One deputy fired a stun bag at the suspect, hitting him in the torso, authorities said. The suspect continued approaching, and both deputies fired their guns at the suspect.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. The sharp object was recovered from the scene.
