About Pacific Standard Time

Starting in September 2011 and for the next six months, more than 60 museums and arts venues from Santa Barbara to San Diego will showcase exhibitions of postwar Southern California art in a $10-million effort funded by the Getty Foundation called Pacific Standard Time. Organizers believe it to be the biggest museum collaboration ever.

Each show tackles a different theme, from the first wave of the Chicano artists to the trailblazing feminists behind the Woman’s Building to the pioneers of the so-called Light and Space movement.

But the exhibitions all share a common goal: to promote Los Angeles as an international art capital and cultural tourism destination by telling the sweeping story of the origins of the region’s dynamic art scene.
