Architecture & Design Film Festival expands to Los Angeles
Following a five-year run in New York, the Architecture & Design Film Festival is branching out to Los Angeles, where it will host a five-day salute to art, architecture, design, fashion and urban planning next month.
The Architecture & Design Film Festival, running March 12-16, will feature 30 recent feature-length and short films from around the world, including profiles of British fashion and textile designer Paul Smith, self-taught Japanese architect Tadao Ando and Italian graphic designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli.
Several documentaries in the series will focus on designs specific to California, including “The Oyler House,” a profile of the Lone Pine retreat designed by Richard Neutra; “Coast Modern,” a look at West Coast modernist architecture; and “Telos: The Fantastic World of Eugene Tssui,” making its world premiere.
Confirmed panelists for the event include Los Angeles Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne; L.A. architect Barbara Bestor; actress Kelly Lynch, current owner of the Richard Oyler house; “Built on Narrow Land” director Malachi Connolly; and Carl Hansen Chief Executive Knud Erik Hansen, among others.
Tickets are $14 and go on sale Friday. The films will screen at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Spring St., downtown Los Angeles. www.adfilmfest.com (213) 489-0994.
