Hot stones and classic rock: Spa specials at Desert Trip
Here are some restorative hot spots where those attending the Desert Trip festival can have some downtime. You don’t have to be a hotel guest — or Mick Jagger — to enjoy them over the two consecutive weekends of performances by rock legends.
Bamboo and nut oil at SoCal’s largest spa
The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa has created a menu specifically for those at the festival: Its spa -- the largest in Southern California -- has designed the Sticks & Stones Massage, which uses bamboo and hot stones for tired muscles. Kukui nut oil is at the heart of the Comfortably Numb foot treatment, and locally grown Medjool dates are used in the Desert Trip Date Facial. Guests who book a treatment can linger in the lavender and eucalyptus steam rooms and enjoy a dip in the saltwater pool. The hour-long offerings are $139 to $149. There is also a 90-minute Desert Trip Trio, which incorporates a facial, a massage and a date scrub for $195. And while there, take advantage of the hangover tea -- a soothing herbal concoction -- being served in the Lobby Bar.

Relief for sun-burned skin at La Quinta
Desert valley dust be gone. The spa at the 90-year-old La Quinta Resort & Club, part of the Waldorf Astoria group, is offering a body purification special during the music festival. The Desert Trip Detox involves slathering the skin with a polish made of salt and green tea, a warm body wrap, a rain shower rinse using Vichy water and then a liberal application of lemongrass lotion. The 75-minute treatment costs $230.

Music and Swedish massages
A treatment at the Rock Spa of the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs doesn’t mean forgoing the music. On its “Rhythm & Motion” menu, festivalgoers can take advantage of the Synchronicity Massage, a modernized 50-minute Swedish massage using music as the special ingredient ($155). Clients experience what the hotel describes as “amplified vibrations, pressures and patterns.” Translation: The massage table vibrates with treble beats, and the massage therapists synchronize their movements with the sounds from a curated playlist.

Yoga and salt pools at Miramonte
Take a little time out for yoga at Miramonte Indian Wells Resort & Spa, which offers Saturday and Sunday classes at 9.30 a.m. for $15 for nonhotel guests. For $30, customers can do some downward dog and then take advantage of the resort’s spa facilities, which include a meditation room and salt pools. There is also a Full Moon Yoga class Oct. 16, which sounds like the optimal way to round out two weekends of rock music in the desert.
