Bike-friendly restaurant and microbrewery coming soon to Frogtown
Spoke Bicycle Cafe, a bike shop in Frogtown — located along the Los Angeles River bike path — is working on opening a full-service restaurant with a microbrewery and micro coffee roastery.
So the next time you’re biking along the river, you can stop and have a couple of beers.
The shop currently has a small selection of snacks and coffee from local producers, including pan-roasted coffee from Greg Thomas’ Trystero Coffee, Si Paletas frozen treats and Coolhaus ice cream sandwiches.
But when construction is finished later this year, Spoke owners Richard Latronica and Laurie Winston plan on serving sandwiches and salads during the day and a more substantial menu in the evening.
The two also plan to serve their own beer brewed at the restaurant. There’s no word yet on what kinds of beer they will be making, but we’re hoping for session beers, given all that bike riding.
Wine will also be available.
The space is being designed by Danny Estrada of Alchemy Design Studios, who happens to be a cyclist and former Lifecycle training rider. Estrada has created a living wall, complete with places to hang your bike while you dine.
The full restaurant is scheduled to open in late October and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The shop is currently open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.
