Slider eating competition; Pork Belly’s Hollywood opens; Chris Kobayashi at Jar

Want to watch someone attempt to eat their weight in sliders? The Dog Haus Biergarten is holding a competition in which 12 competitors, selected through qualifying rounds held at the Dog Haus, will face off to see who can eat the most Dog Haus sliders in six minutes. The competition is set for 3 p.m. Saturday. The three top participants will be awarded more than $1,000 in food credit and prizes. The festivities are scheduled to begin at noon before the competition. Attendees can taste food samples and beer from local breweries, and snag some swag. There will also be a DJ and other activities such as life-size Jenga. 98 E. Green Street, Pasadena (626) 683-0808.

Pork Belly’s, the Venice restaurant serving up pulled pork, brisket and tater tots, is heading to Hollywood. The restaurant will pop-up at the District 13 space every Monday and Tuesday night in January. Hours will be 6 p.m. to midnight. 1556 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Los Angeles (323) 957-1313.

Chris Kobayashi of Artisan restaurant in Paso Robles is taking over the kitchen at Jar Jan. 12. Kobayashi will prepare a menu showcasing ingredients from his local purveyors and farms. Dishes will include Charter Oak lamb tartare, Santa Barbara uni and Rinconada Dairy pork pate for an amuse, rabbit stroganoff, sablefish, abalone dumplings and chocolate budino for dessert.
