Scouting Report: Irv’s Burgers (new location)
Name of restaurant: Irv’s Burgers (open since 1946) moved to a new location in January. The former hamburger shack is just up the street from the old location and now offers indoor and outdoor seating.
Concept: Old-school burgers and filling breakfasts.
Chef/Owner: Sonia Hong, her brother Sean and their mother, affectionately known as Mama-Soon.
What dish represents the restaurant, and why? Irv’s classic cheeseburger topped with pastrami (or bacon) is a meat lover’s treat. French fries and thick onion rings are solid as well.
They also offer a breakfast menu including a loaded, chorizo burrito and a sizable bacon and egg sandwich.
Who’s at the next table? A large group of men holding court near the counter. More than a few look to be nursing hangovers.
Appropriate for...: Everyone.
Uh-oh...: Cash only, and parking can be a challenge during lunch hours.
Service: Extremely friendly and fun. And Yes, owner Sonia still sketches “just for you” drawings on both the lunch and breakfast plates!
