Get some tequila schooling at Te’Kila’s monthly tastings
Te’Kila, the Hollywood cantina with more than 150 bottles of tequila and other agave-based spirits, is starting a monthly tequila-tasting series Feb. 27.
Owner Kevin Zadoyan will select five tequilas to showcase for the tasting. He’ll meander through the history of tequila and discuss the story and flavor characteristics of each example he’s chosen. He’ll even demonstrate the proper way to taste the fiery spirit.
As anyone who’s ever learned about wine can tell you, a comparative tasting is one of the best ways to learn about specific grapes or regions and fix that information in your taste memory.
It’s the same with spirits. By tasting a series of tequilas, comparing one with another, you begin to understand something about terroir and technique and the hand of the maker.
In the process, you begin to find the tequilas that you love.
Zadoyan doesn’t intend these monthly tastings to be a mass event. That’s why he’s limiting them to just eight people seated around a special tasting table near the bar. He’s scheduled three back-to-back tastings per evening at 8 p.m., 8:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
To participate requires a commitment. That means buying a ticket ($25) through Eventbrite at www.tekilahollywood.eventbrite.com.
Te’Kila is at 6541 Hollywood Blvd. (just west of Wilcox), Los Angeles (323) 960-2404; www.tekilahollywood.com.
