Food events: Eastside food festival, English-muffin-making classes, BBQ & Beer Fest
Here are three food events you should probably know about, in case you want something fun to do this weekend, or simply need more material for your social media accounts.
If you’ve been to Love & Salt, Michael Fiorelli’s Manhattan Beach restaurant, chances are you’ve ordered the English muffins. They make an appearance on nearly every table during brunch service. And now, you can learn how to make them. As part of the MasterCard Priceless program, Fiorelli will be giving an hour-long English muffin demo, followed by brunch in the restaurant’s private dining room. Brunch and the demo are $65 per person and can be purchased online. 317 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach, (310) 545-5252, www.loveandsaltla.com.
The 6th annual Taste of the Eastside will take place May 1 at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens. The event will feature more than 30 vendors from Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Atwater Village, Echo Park and Downtown, including Little Dom’s, G&B Coffee, Barcito and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Silver Lake Wines will provide vino for the event, alongside beers from Eagle Rock and Highland Park Brewery and cocktails by Mohawk Bend and Greenbar Distillery. The event will benefit Rose Scharlin Cooperative Nursery School, an L.A. co-op for kids, as well as the Pablove Foundation and Friends of the Los Angeles River. General admission tickets are $40 pre-sale and $50 the day of the event, and include unlimited food samples and wine, beer and spirits for purchase. VIP tickets are $70 pre-sale and $80 the day of the event, and include unlimited food samples, three drink tickets, VIP demos, early entry into the event, a VIP gift bag, front row demo seating and priority parking. www.tasteoftheeastside.com.
The BBQ & Beer Festival (this is a real thing) is happening May 6 and 7 at Central Park in Santa Clarita. The festival will showcase more than 20 microbreweries featuring more than 45 beers and ciders on tap. Participants include Sierra Nevada, Golden Road Brewery, Firemans Brew, Rincon Brewery and Island Brewing Company. Barbecue vendors and food trucks include Rustic Burger, Black Sugar Rib Co., Our Place BBQ & Soul Food, and BBQ Smokehouse. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Prices vary, depending on which day you attend.
