VIDEO: Cheerios’ super cute Super Bowl ad features its famous interracial couple
Cheerios has released its first-ever Super Bowl ad, and it’s ridiculously cute.
The ad, which can be viewed above, features the interracial family that starred in a Cheerios’ ad that prompted controversy last year. In this year’s ad, the father tries to explain to his daughter that she’ll be getting a baby brother soon. He uses some Cheerios to demonstrate the new addition to the family.
At first she seems confused, but then decides she can use this news to her advantage and demands a puppy. She doesn’t look like she’s going to take no for an answer, and he obliges.
After the company aired the first commercial with the family last year, angry commenters flooded the ad’s YouTube page with overtly racist comments. General Mills, maker of Cheerios, was forced to temporarily disable the comments.
This year’s commercial, which already has more than 1 million views on YouTube, seems to be having the opposite effect with mostly supportive feedback from commenters.
“Yay biracial couples! My grandmother is biracial, my great-grandmother is biracial, my great-grandfather is biracial. I’m black, but I love my heritage! This is great!” writes YouTube user Jon12213.
While YouTube user Andrew R McCloskey writes: “Happy family in a nice home. If you’re against that you are not a real American.”
