The Cannibal, a restaurant and butcher shop coming to Culver City, with bike valet

The Cannibal Culver City, a restaurant opening at Culver City’s new Platform development in the fall, will have a bike valet. And don’t even think about changing out of your brightly colored biking kit before you come in. They’re encouraged, and even earn you a free beer.

Christian Pappanicholas, who owns both the new restaurant and the original New York City location, with co-owner Cory Lane, is a serious cyclist. He’s part of a racing team, and wanted to make sure the restaurant was bike-friendly. So if you stop in for a meal in your full cycling kit, your second beer is free.

Chef Francis Derby will also offer musette bags (feed bags used for riders during races), a rice bar program that replaces power/energy bars with housemade rice bars — and the restaurant staff plans to show up at local ride destinations to feed riders.

But the restaurant isn’t just for those riding in on two wheels. Like the New York City location’s “beer and butcher-focused” concept, the Culver City location will feature a meat-forward menu (there will be vegetables too) with housemade sausages and charcuterie.

And most everything will be cooked on a custom Grillworks wood-burning grill, in the open kitchen, visible from the restaurant’s 120 seats. You can also expect more than 500 international beers, wine and whiskey-based cocktails — and a full retail/butcher shop with plenty of take-away options for bikers and pedestrians.

8850 West Washington Boulevard, Culver City.
