New Up Coffee app tracks your caffeine intake for a better night’s sleep
If you’re one of those coffee lovers who needs their minimum three cups of joe a day, a new app could help make sure your daily caffeine buzz doesn’t affect your sleep.
Up Coffee by Jawbone Labs is a free app for download on your smartphone or tablet. It’s designed to figure out how much caffeine you can handle before you feel wired, and when you should cut yourself off before bedtime.
Once you download the app, you fill out a short form that asks your sex, weight, height, how sensitive to caffeine you are and your regular bedtime.
When you have a cup of coffee, tea, an energy drink or anything with caffeine, just type it into the app. It will then tell you if you’re close to getting wired and how much time you’ll need before you’re able to get a good night’s rest.
The science behind the app is provided by Jawbone’s data scientists who’ve studied caffeine intake and how it affects your body. If you have an Up by Jawbone wristband, which tracks how you eat, sleep and move, you can sync it to the Up Coffee app. The app also works without the band.
After using the app for a couple of days, you can get a series of reports on how your body reacts to the caffeine you’re drinking.
