A new wave of brewery tasting rooms coming to L.A.

The surge of new brewing operations across the Southland shows no sign of slowing down, and in recent weeks announcements of tasting rooms opening soon have been pouring in. From Highland Park to Orange County, here are six places that will soon be serving-up brewery-fresh craft beer.

Alhambra

Ohana Brewing Co. has been making beer at its downtown L.A. production facility for over a year now, but -- apart from an extremely limited run of bottles -- the only place to find its brews have been at local beer bars. This is set to change soon; the owners signed a lease this month on a space in Alhambra for a dedicated tasting room.

Highland ParkOpening soon inside of the Hermosillo wine and beer bar on York Boulevard, the Highland Park Brewery is led by former Craftsman Brewing Co. brewer Bob Kunz. No stranger to the L.A. beer scene, Kunz has been building out the brewery and developing recipes for the past few months, and while he expected to be operating before the end of the year, recent city-bureaucracy hang-ups have delayed the official opening.

Redondo Beach

Adding another to the lengthening list of South Bay breweries, King Harbor Brewing Co. was issued building permits just this week for its 182nd Street brewery and tasting room. The team hope to have the brewery brewing and the tap-room open in early 2014.

Costa Mesa

Orange County is getting another production brewery in early 2014 when Barley Forge Brewing Co. opens a 10,000-square-foot brewery and tasting room in the South on Bristol Entertainment and Arts development with the curious and infuriating “SoBeCa” monicker.

Carson

The “small-batch beer endeavor” known as Phantom Carriage Brewing released its first beer -- the light, tart Muis -- over the summer after brewing and aging the beer at the Monkish Brewery in Torrance, and the partners announced that they have signed a lease for a permanent facility in nearby Carson. They have begun the permitting and approval process for the tasting room and cafe and hope to begin brewing at the new facility in early 2014.

San Pedro

Brouwerij West -- the three-year-old, SoCal-based operation known for its Belgian-style ales and inspired label designs -- is finally getting a home of its own inside of Warehouse 9 at the Port of Los Angeles. The 26,000-square-foot brewery will include a restaurant, tasting room, and ample patio seating when it opens in mid-2014.
