Madonna costumes on view in L.A. for one-night exhibit at Macy’s
Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” wedding dress and Jean Paul Gaultier cone-bra corset are two of the iconic costumes in rock ’n’ roll history.
And they will be on display to the public in L.A. on Thursday during a one-night-only pop-up fashion exhibit at Macy’s in Century City. The event, titled “Madonna’s Fashion Evolution,” marks the first time many of the star’s costumes have been displayed together.
Items have been brought in from all over the world. The pink satin cone-bra corset (worn during the “Blonde Ambition” tour) was flown in from a museum in Amsterdam. The wedding dress, which Madonna wore at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards show, is on loan from the Hard Rock Café, and the remaining six costumes were handpicked by Madonna from her personal archives.
The costumes will be shown alongside styles from Material Girl, the junior fashion line created for Macy’s by Madonna and her daughter Lola, which launched in 2010. And Madonna’s longtime costume collaborator, L.A.-based Arianne Phillips, will be on hand for a meet-and-greet.
“The pop-up exhibit at Macy’s perfectly exemplifies the inspiration and spirit of the Material Girl line and will give my fans a great opportunity to see the evolution of my style over the years,” Madonna said in a news release.
Celebrity guests, including Vanessa Hudgens, AnnaSophia Robb, Kat Graham, Michelle Trachtenberg, Ireland Baldwin and others are expected to be on hand at the exhibit.
“Madonna’s Fashion Evolution” exhibit, Thursday, April 25, 6 to 8 p.m., Macy’s Westfield Century City, Main Floor, Level 1, 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.
