Golden opportunities for a golden tan, golden makeup

The laid-back chic of the spring runway collections begs for a warm, sun-kissed beauty look. And there is an array of new products to help achieve that vacation-refreshed magic, even if your next getaway isn’t on the horizon.

No tan? No problem. There are several new pigments and powders designed to enhance the skin’s luminosity. Clé de Peau Beauté Luminizing Face Enhancer and Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer Radiant Pigment have light-reflecting properties that promise to help brighten the face with a healthy flush and hide imperfections.

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster is described as a “made-to-measure self tan.” Just add a drop (or two or three) of the concentrated elixir to your facial moisturizer at night, and wake up as bronze as you like.

If you want less commitment, a bronzing powder will do the trick. At the Michael Kors fashion show, makeup artist Dick Page warmed up complexions with Flush and Glow, two new hues of bronzing powder from Kors beauty.

When it comes to the eyes, there’s also a new gold standard. On the runway at Donna Karan, lead makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury for MAC Cosmetics used MAC’s Paint Pot cream-to-powder finish eyeshadow in Eclair, a chocolate brown with gold shimmer. At Jason Wu, makeup artist Diane Kendal applied loose rose gold glitter over shimmery brown shadow from Lancôme’s Shadow and Liner Palette in Bronze Amour. Diorshow Fusion shadow in Météore is another spring choice.

Dries Van Noten went one step further. For the Belgian designer’s runway show, makeup artist Peter Philips applied glistening pieces of gold thread to eyelashes, while hairstylist Sam McKnight painted a line of gold leaf mixed with hair wax into the models’ side parts.

For balance, many new lip and nail shades are barely there pink, like NARS Larger than Life Bimini lip gloss, or pinkish-beige, like Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer in Pink Dune. But leave it to designer Marc Jacobs to create a new natural. Marc Jacobs Beauty’s new Bark nail lacquer was worn by models at his spring fashion show and by Miley Cyrus in the label’s spring ad campaign. The glossy brown hue was embellished with a row of jet black Swarovski crystals for a look that bucks the tide of nail art overkill, creating the perfect spring mix of dazzling and down-to-earth.
