The 101-year-old Western Costume Co. is continuing to clean out its closet, putting wardrobe pieces from such classic films as “Gone With the Wind” and “Citizen Kane” up for bid at a Hollywood memorabilia auction organized by Profiles in History.

The Calabasas-based auction house announced Tuesday that the items set to hit the auction block later this month will include a three-piece suit worn by Orson Welles as Charles Foster Kane in the final “Rosebud” scene of “Citizen Kane,” and a black mourning hat worn by Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone With the Wind.” Profiles in History is hoping the former will fetch $60,000 to $80,000 and the latter in the $8,000 to $12,000 range by the time the final auction hammer comes down.

Other pieces from Western’s rarefied 6,000-piece “star collection” headed to auction include a black bolero vest worn by Rudolph Valentino in the 1926 film “Son of the Sheik,” a black felt hat worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1953’s “How to Marry a Millionaire,” and Frank Sinatra’s green jacket and pants from the 1958 World War II romance flick “Kings Go Forth.”

Also up for bid is a copy of the iconic green velvet curtain dress and hat from “Gone With the Wind,” which Western painstakingly re-created last year as part of its centennial celebration exhibition. (Perhaps one of the most recognizable dresses in cinema history, the original, designed by Walter Plunkett, currently resides in the collection of the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin.)

These wardrobe pieces will join the previously announced lot of costumes from “The Sound of Music” -- also from Western’s holdings -- scheduled to go under the gavel on Dec. 21. Additional details about the upcoming auction can be found at Profiles in History’s website.
