Paris Fashion Week spring 2014: Anthony Vaccarello review
PARIS -- Known for his provocative gowns, which have been worn by Jennifer Lopez, Giselle Bundchen and others, Belgian-born designer Anthony Vaccarello showed his collection Tuesday during the first day of Paris Fashion Week.
The scene: Interest in this up-and-coming talent is high, especially now that Vaccarello is rumored to be in the running to take the top spot at Versace’s secondary line, Versus, following J.W. Anderson in what is intended to be a revolving slate of designers.
The look: Barely dressed.
Vaccarello opened with a range of sexy black suit separates, including shorts, a cropped jacket, tapered pants and a duster coat, all embellished with dome-shaped cabachon studs, all of which seemed to indicate that he is trying to move his aesthetic into the daytime hours.
Then, things really started to sizzle with strips of fabric made into barely-there black mini dresses exposing tanned hips and thighs, and miniskirts with hems coming to a triangular point between the legs. There were also a few chain-mail T-shirts and bleached jeans, which seemed like an afterthought.
The verdict: As rock-star clothes for Rihanna and the zero-body-fat club, this collection was a slam dunk. Anyone else, not so much.
