Paris Fashion Week fall 2013: Anthony Vaccarello review

PARIS -- Up-and-coming, Paris-based, Belgian-born designer Anthony Vaccarello designed that one-shoulder, leg slit-up-to-there gown that Jennifer Lopez wore to the Grammys earlier this month. And his fall-winter 2013 collection, shown Tuesday during Paris Fashion Week, proved that he is Paris’ next fashion provocateur.

The look: Fierce femininity that carried through from sharp-tailored separates with a fetishistic edge, to body-skimming mini dresses and gowns with revealing cutouts, and hardware snaking around every curve. Drapey silk blouses tucked into asymmetrical miniskirts. Jackets and slim coats embellished with bands of leather and all kinds of hardware, including grommets, bullet-like spikes, studs and chain mail. Fuzzy, mohair sweaters over stovepipe pants. A finale of some of the sexiest gowns we’ve seen in a long time.

The scene: This was one of the first shows of the week, but that didn’t stop fashion’s biggest fan Kanye West from coming out. He’s apparently been in Paris recording his next album. And he left pregnant Kim at home.

The verdict: Vaccarello’s vision is laser-sharp, confident and sexy. Let’s hope we see a lot more of his work on Hollywood red carpets soon.
