Office of Angela Scott brings men’s style footwear to L.A. women
The Office of Angela Scott is bringing men’s style footwear to L.A. women with the opening of its first boutique on Melrose Avenue.
The store features the Santa Barbara-based designer’s full range of styles, including black-and-navy striped oxfords with chunky heels, black patent platform kiltie loafers, chocolate suede cut-out flat booties with perforated details, black-and-white Deco-inspired flat derby oxfords and more, priced from $395 to $650.
Scott’s shoes have been worn by Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres and Taylor Swift.
They are produced in Portugal, have handcrafted details such as hand-stained leather, stacked heels and Goodyear welted soles, and are lighter and more comfortable than you’d expect from such sturdy styles.
Nestled on Melrose between Fairfax Avenue’s streetwear row and the luxury corridor closer to Melrose Place, the 721-square-foot store features romantic design touches, including crystal chandeliers, and custom-designed shelving with perforated, brogue-inspired supports.
Scott has curated an assortment of items from California-based labels to sell beside her shoes, including fragrances by Capsule Parfums in Santa Monica, hats by Courtney Ellzey-Jordan in Ventura, oxford button-down shirts by Apolis, hand knit ponchos and sweaters by Kate McMahon of Kakoon in Montecito, and a handful of vintage frilly white skirts and dresses.
“My goal is to show the woman who is not quite sure how to wear an oxford [shoe] that you can wear it softly and in a feminine way,” the designer said at the store opening Wednesday night.
“Women in California have a sense of casualness that’s really beautiful…. Being in Santa Barbara for 12 years, you are used to seeing that very typical sophisticated Montecito woman in slacks and a cashmere sweater with ballet flats,” said Scott. “I wanted to bring in my version. So instead of the ballet flat, I added the lace-up and the brogue.”
There’s something for guys in store too. A men’s line, The Office of Mister Scott, was first launched in fall 2013 as a capsule collection of the designer’s signature striped oxfords. Scott also recently released an oxford designed with Coca Cola and will.i.am’s eco-friendly brand Ekocycle.
Founded in spring 2012, the Office of Angela Scott is stocked at Neiman Marcus, Harrods in London and Tomorrowland in Tokyo.
The Office of Angela Scott, 7975 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 424-7796. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
