Mother Denim, model Freja Beha collaborate for a good cause
L.A.-based Mother Denim has partnered with model Freja Beha Erichsen on a capsule collection that will benefit Médecins Sans Frontières – the international medical humanitarian organization known in the U.S. as Doctors Without Borders.
The capsule includes a slim, skinny jean called the Muse (in five washes); a moto-inspired pant called the Welt Zip Muse; a printed jean inspired by agate and geode crystals (the Crystal Cove); a pair of faux leather pants; a pair of high-waisted denim cutoffs; and a chambray shirt dubbed the Foxy Boxy.
According to Mother’s announcement of the partnership, the model worked hand-in-hand with designer Tim Kaeding to choose the washes, prints, hardware, fit and tags of the capsule collection.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Tim and Lela [Becker], the founders of Mother, in this collaboration to raise some much-needed funds for Doctors Without Borders,” Erichsen said in Wednesday’s announcement. “We’ve created some beautiful jeans that feel snug and comfortable, yet durable and empowering.”
Erichsen (who is also known as Freja Beha), may not be the most familiar name outside of the fashion world, but you’ve more than likely seen her somewhere before.
The Danish-born New York-based model has logged some serious runway miles for the likes of Burberry, Chanel, Gucci, Lanvin and Prada, and has appeared in ad campaigns for an equally impressive roster of luxury brands. You might have noticed her as one of the three women (Natasha Poly and Raquel Zimmermann were the other two) in the 2007 David Lynch-directed Gucci by Gucci fragrance spot.
And, while this is apparently her first fashion world collaboration, these aren’t the first items to bear her name. She is, we’re told, the namesake of Alexander Wang’s Freja lace-up stiletto boot, Jill Stuart’s Freja handbag and the Chloé Freja clutch.
Ten percent of retail sales of the capsule collection, which ranges in price from $145 to $300, will go to Médecins Sans Frontières.
The collaboration is slated to hit the shelves of high-end U.S. retailers around the third week of September as well as Revolve Clothing online*.
