Marilyn Monroe’s 51st memorial at Hollywood Museum includes signings

This weekend's Marilyn Monroe remembrances include a Saturday meet-and-greet with collectors like Greg Schreiner, president of Marilyn Remembered (shown here in 2012 posing with gowns from his collection once worn by the late actress).

Marilyn Monroe, who shuffled off this mortal coil Aug. 5, 1962, is being remembered in a three-day series of events involving the Hollywood Museum on Saturday through Monday.

Events on tap include a Saturday meet-and-greet from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum with collectors Greg Schreiner, president of the Marilyn Remembered fan club and Scott Fortner, president of the Marilyn fan club.

On Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m., the museum hosts a series of book signings that include Lois Banner (author of “Marilyn: The Passion and the Paradox”), Douglas Kirkland (“An Evening With Marilyn”) and James Spada (“Marilyn Monroe: Her Life in Pictures “).

But the culminating event comes on Monday, Aug. 5, the actual 51st anniversary of Monroe’s passing, when the museum co-hosts the annual “Marilyn Remembered” memorial service at the Westwood Village Memorial Park, 1218 Glendon Ave, Westwood.

Not coincidentally through Sept. 8 the Hollywood Museum is home to “Marilyn: The Exhibit,” which it bills as “the largest exhibit of authentic items, costumes and personal memorabilia in the United States.”

2013 Marilyn Monroe Remembrance Weekend, the Hollywood Museum, 1660 N. Highland Ave., additional information, including exhibition hours, can be found at www.thehollywoodmuseum.com.
