Champagne Taittinger toasts Hollywood in advance of SAG Awards
At a Sunset Tower Hotel luncheon on Friday, Clovis Taittinger raised a glass of his family brand bubbly in honor of Hollywood as the Champagne flowed freely through a room full of Hollywood movers, shakers, stars and star makers that included actresses Emily Blunt, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Shiva Rose and Jessica Joffe, agent Chris Andrews, pro basketball player Jason Collins and publicist Gary Mantoosh.
“Thank you all very much for attending this bubbly lunch, celebrating our 14- or 15-year partnership [with the Screen Actors Guild Awards],” the 35-year-old Parisian said before lunch was served. “Not everyone will get a trophy at the awards, but at least everyone will get a glass of happiness.”
Taittinger was referring to the brand’s role as the longtime Champagne sponsor of the awards ceremony, which takes place Saturday. It’s the second year Taittinger has held a luncheon in advance of the big day.
Last year’s luncheon honored women in Hollywood and this year’s celebrated men in Hollywood and was hosted by Taittinger, Andrews, director Lee Daniels (who was not in attendance) and Mantoosh.
The Friday lunch was a fairly low-key, informal affair, with many a flute of Champagne quaffed (and a few spilled) over the course of the nearly three-hour affair.
A Friday lunch is always a fashion grab-bag (and even more so with the mercury soaring in mid-winter) but there was one outfit that absolutely must be mentioned: fashion journalist Louise Roe’s purple Mina+Olya dress and purple croc-textured clutch that almost perfectly matched the purple-tiled bottles of Champagne Taittinger Nocturne scattered about the room.
“It was a total coincidence,” Roe said. “I didn’t plan it. But I bet it’ll make it easier to sneak away with,” she added with a chuckle.
In the end, no Champagne-ouflage would be required -- each luncheon guest was sent home with a bottle as a parting gift.
Which pretty much means no matter what happens at the SAG Awards on Saturday, the night’s going to end with glasses of happiness -- all the way around.
The SAG Awards will begin at 5 p.m. PST Saturday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast on TNT and TBS.
