Amandla Stenberg calls out Kylie Jenner over cornrows

Teen actress Amandla Stenberg took Kylie Jenner to task for posting a photo of herself in cornrows on Instagram.

Stenberg left her objection in the comments section: “When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.”

When Jenner responded, “Oh go hang with Jaden or something,” referring to Stenberg’s recent prom date with actor Jaden Smith, Stenberg penned an essay on double standards in beauty. She also tweeted: “End the ‘angry black girl’ narrative. It’s just another attempt to undermine certain perspectives. I have strong opinions. I am not angry.”

Stenberg, who appeared as Rue in “The Hunger Games,” made a video earlier this year about cultural appropriation, “Don’t Cash Crop on my Cornrows.”
