Swift es ahora la artista que más ha ganado el Grammy al Álbum del Año al alcanzar este galardón por cuarta ocasión en su carrera
Ante la tormenta que mantiene en alerta al estado de California este domingo 4 de febrero, Los Ángeles fue la ciudad donde la lluvia de estrellas de la música llegaron para celebrar la edición 66 de los Grammy en las instalaciones del Crypto.com Arena.
Aquí bajo la tormenta angelina, Karol G se convirtió en la primera cantante femenina en ganar la categoría Mejor Álbum de Música Urbana en la historia de estos premios con su produción “Mañana será bonito”, que el año pasado se convirtió en el Álbum del Año y Álbum de Música Urbana del año de la Academia Latina de la Grabación 2023 en Sevilla, España.
El Grammy se lo entregó Christina Aguilera y su compatriota Maluma, quien antes de dárselo dijo a viva voz “Que Viva Colombia”. La joven de Medellín se presentó en el escenario con su inglés de acento marcado y lo hizo como si lo estuviera haciendo en la escuela, pero de una manera muy simpática. “Hola como están todos, mi nombre es Karol G, soy de Medellin, Colombia”, fue lo primero que dijo con una sonrisa y sujetando con las dos manos su gramófono.
Agregó además que estaba “súper feliz, súper nerviosa, súper emocionada” frente a tantas leyendas que admira y respeta. “Es mi primera vez en los Grammy y es la primera vez que estoy sujetando propio mi Grammy”, señaló la artista colombiana más exitosa de la actualidad, quien además espera seguir ganando más Grammy en su carrera. “Mis fans que vinieron y disfrutaron de mi álbum, se motivan e inspiran conmigo y se curan conmigo. Muchas gracias. Les prometo darles lo mejor de mí siempre. Espero que éste sea el primero de muchos, así que gracias a todos”, concluyó con una sonrisa y mencionó a sus compañero nominados Tainy y Rauw Alejandro.
En esta ocasión, la categoría Álbum de Música Urbana solamente había incluido a tres postulantes por lo que Karol G, Rauw Alejandro y Tainy se vieron las caras en vivo. El año pasado esta categoría se entregó también en la ceremonia televisada y el premiado de la noche fue Bad Bunny en ese mismo apartado.
En la ceremonia Premiere donde se entregó la mayoría de los premios en las categorías de los diferentes géneros también se hizo entrega de las ternas dedicadas a los trabajos musicales latinos. Ahí la cantante guatemalteca, radicada en Los Ángeles, Gaby Moreno, sorprendió en la categoría a Álbum Pop Latino al coronarse como la ganadora absoluta frente a Pablo Alborán, AleMor, Paula Arenas, Pedro Capó y Maluma.
La joven cantante que se dio a conocer en Estados Unidos por el tema a dueto “Fuiste tú”, el cual grabó con su compatriota Ricardo Arjona, fue invitada a actuar en el escenario de la Premiere y al adjudicarse el gramófono se lo dedicó a su país Guatemala con evidente emoción y a punto de llorar.
Como lo comentó nuestro colega Sergio Burstein en una entrevista previa con la ganadora, “Ya es hora de que las gane” y así mismo sucedió. Moreno también llegaba con otra nominación debido a su labor de producción en la obra más reciente de la leyenda cubana Omara Portuondo, “Vida”, que competía en la categoría Mejor Álbum Tropical Latino, pero al final no ganó.
Este premio al Álbum Tropical Latino, que fue anunciado por la mexicana Natalia Lafourcade, se lo adjudicó Rubén Blades junto a Roberto Delgado & Orquesta por su trabajo “Siembra: 45º Aniversario (En Vivo en el Coliseo de Puerto Rico, 14 de Mayo 2022”.
En el apartado al Álbum Rock o Alternativo Latino competían las placas de Cabra, Diamante Eléctrico y Fito Paez, además del álbum “De todas las flores” de la mexicana Natalia Lafourcade, quien finalmente fue la ganadora en un empate con el trabajo “Vida cotidiana” del colombiano Juanes que no asistió a la ceremonia. “Quiero agradecer a mi famiiia, a mi marido que me ha apoyado, a mi manager y mi sello, a mis amigos. Mamá, papá, México... vámonos”, dijo emocionada en el escenario Lafourcade, quien en noviembre de 2023 se llevó el premio a Grabación del Año con este mismo álbum.
En la terna al Álbum de Música Mexicana, incluyendo al tejano, se estuvieron midiendo las producciones de Ana Bárbara, Lila Downs, Flor de Toloache, Lupita Infante y el cantante de corridos tumbados Peso Pluma, quien se adjudicó el galardón en ausencia por su producción “Génesis”. Después se supo que Peso Pluma había llegado junto a su novia Nicki Nicole, pero no llegó a tiempo a la Premiere para recibir su premio.
En otro grupo de nominados el premio al Álbum Jazz Latino se lo llevó “El Arte del Bolero Vol. 2” de Miguel Zenón & Luis Perdomo y así se impuso a uno de los favoritos, Bobby Sanabria Multiverse Big Band por “Vox Humana”.

En la lista de nominados de este año que se dio a conocer en noviembre de 2023, SZA encabezaba la contienda con 9 candidaturas, seguida por Phoebe Bridgers, Serban Ghenea y Victoria Monét que llegaban con 7 postulaciones cada una, mientras que Jack Antonoff, Jon Batiste, boygenius, Brandy Clark, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo y Taylor Swift lo habían hecho con 6 nominaciones por lado.
Pero como solamente debe haber un ganador absoluto en la categoría más importante de la competencia, la estrella del éxito “My Heart Will Go On” Celine Dion, fue la encargada de presentar el Grammy al Álbum del Año en medio de sonoros aplausos por su regreso a un escenario a pesar de su extraño cuadro de salud.
Dion, quien dijo en el escenario que recibió el premio hace 27 años de manos de Diana Ross y Sting, ha estado desaparecida de la escena desde finales de 2022, tras revelar que había sido diagnosticada con el extraño síndrome de persona rígida, un trastorno neurológico autoinmune. Pero aún así ahí estaba la gran estrella frente al público.
El premio al Álbum del Año fue anunciado y se lo llevó por cuarta ocasión en su carrera Taylor Swift y con este galardón la cantante impuso un récord como la artista con más victorias en esta categoría en la historia de los premios de la Academia de la Grabación.
Entre tanto, el premio a Grabación del Año, que fue presentado por la varias veces ganadora del Oscar de la Academia, Meryl Streep, se lo adjudicó sorpresivamente la cantante Miley Cyrus por su mega éxito “Flowers”, mientras que en la categoría el premio al Mejor Nuevo Artista se lo llevó la joven cantante de 34 años y originaria de Atlanta, Georgia, Victoria Monét. Monét es colaboradora frecuente de la cantante estadounidense Ariana Grande y ha coescrito canciones para cada uno de sus álbumes de estudio.

El legendario Lionel Richie anunció a “What Was I Made For? (de la película “Barbie”) en la voz de Billie Eilish, como la ganadora del Grammy a la Canción del Año. La talentosa artista que en la ceremonia Premiere ya se había llevado el Grammy a Best Song Written For Visual Media por este mismo tema dijo al recibir el galardón que “Barbie es la mejor película del año”.
Jay Z recibió el premio Dr. Dre Global Impact Award y estuvo acompañado de su hija Blue Ivy, que procreó con su esposa, la multiganadora del Grammy, Beyonce Knowles. Desde el estrado y sujetando su gramófono de color negro, Jay Z le dijo sus verdades a la Academia de la Grabación.
En la ceremonia televisada el opening estuvo a cargo de Dua Lipa con las interpretaciones de sus éxitos “Training Season”, “Houdini” y su éxito disco-pop “Dance the Night” de la cinta “Barbie”. Entre tanto, Billie Eilish y Finneas le dieron su interpretación a la balada de “Barbie” “What Was I Made For?” con acompañamiento de cuerdas en vivo, siendo la segunda canción de la exitosa película de la muñeca en la ceremonia.
También actuaron Luke Combs con la compañia de la legendaria Tracy Chapman para cantar “Fast Car”. También cantó Miley Cyrus e interpretó su éxito “Flowers:, el cual había sido premiado minutos antes con el Grammy al Best Pop Solo Performance y entregado a Miley por la estrella Mariah Carey.
También actuaron Olivia Rodrigo y la banda irlandesa U2 desde Las Vegas, quienes anunciaron la categoría a Best Pop Vocal Album que se llevó Taylor Swift por su producción “Midnights”. Al recibirlo, Swift dijo que ese era su Grammy núnero 13 de su carrera y aprovechó para anunciar en el escenario que su nuevo álbum, “Tortured Poets Department”, será lanzado el 19 de abril. Por otro lado, la cantante Kelly Clarkson no pudo ganar su tercer Grammy, esta vez por su álbum “Chemistry”, por lo que no pudo romper el récord en la categoría Best Pop Vocal Album que algunos esperaban.
Actuaron Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Burna Boy, Joni Mitchell, Travis Scott, SZA, entre otros, mientras que entre los presentadores de premios se vieo a Christina Aguilera y Maluma, además de Lenny Kravitz que presentó la actuación de Jon Batiste en el segmento In Memoriam, que también contó con la actuación de Stevie Wonder que honró a Tony Bennett , cuya imagen apareció en la enorme pantalla. Cantó “For Once in My Life” y luego “The Best is Yet to Come” de Bennett. Por su lado, Annie Lennox honró a Sinead O’Connor interpretando “Nothing Compares 2 U”, con dos de los acompañantes del fallecido compositor Prince. Para finalizar, Oprah Winfrey presentó a Fantasia Barrino quien le dio voz a “Proud Mary” para honrar a la fallecida Tina Turner.
La conducción estuvo a cargo y por cuarta ocasión por el comediante Trevor Noah, quien en esta ocasión llegaba como nominado en la terna álbum de comedia por su grabación “I Wish You Would”, pero fue superado por “What’s In A Name?”, de Dave Chappelle.
La ceremonia de entrega de la edición 66 del Grammy se transmitió en vivo a través de la cadena CBS y Paramount +, mientras que la ceremonia Premiere, donde se entregaron la mayoría de premios, incluidas las categorías latinas, se transmitió vía intenet desde las 3pm ET 12:30pm PT a través de Grammy.com y las plataformas digitales de la Academia de la Grabación.
