‘X Factor’ to air do-over after ‘graphics error’ for phone voting
Simon Cowell made a boo-boo.
Cowell’s singing contest, “The X Factor,” messed up its voting process during Wednesday’s show, showing viewers the wrong onscreen phone numbers for dial-in votes.
As a result, the producers of the Fox show are tossing out all the votes and giving the 13 remaining contestants a chance to perform again in a live, one-hour performance show on Thursday.
Those results will then be announced on Nov. 13.
Fox declined to comment on the goof other than to cite a news release issued immediately after the show. The release referred to a “graphics error” but provided no explanation about why the mistake happened.
This is hardly the worst news this week for Cowell and “X Factor,” though. Wednesday’s show sunk to the lowest rating ever for a regular episode. And Fox Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey this week called the show’s performance “disappointing.”
Ouch.
