‘The Americans,’ FX lead TCA Award nominations
“The Americans” and its channel, FX, led the pack in the Television Critics Assn. awards nominations, announced Monday morning.
The first season of the Cold War spy drama starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys grabbed four nominations, including a nomination for individual achievement in drama for Rhys and nods for outstanding new program, outstanding achievement in drama and program of the year.
“The Americans” premiered to good reviews in January and has been renewed for a second season, however it did not generate an audience the size of FX’s hit “American Horror Story.” The embrace of critics could give it a boost in its second season.
As a channel, FX received seven total nominations. Besides the four for “The Americans,” it received two nominations for “Louie,” including one for its star, Louis C.K., and a nomination for outstanding achievement in movie, miniseries or special for “American Horror Story: Asylum.”
Another critics’ favorite, “Breaking Bad,” grabbed three nominations for the first half of its final season on AMC, including a nomination for individual achievement in drama for star Bryan Cranston.
Leading the comedy side of the nominations was “Louie” and NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” with two nominations apiece.
The awards, voted on by the Television Critics’ Assn., will be handed out in a ceremony on Aug. 3 during the TCA’s summer press tour.
