Comedy Central renews ‘South Park’ through Season 23

Oh my God. They’re never killing Kenny!

In news that is likely to make you feel very happy, very old or a little bit of both, Comedy Central announced Wednesday that it has renewed “South Park” for three more seasons.

The deal will keep Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny on the air through 2019 and -- you may want to sit down for this -- a 23rd season.

By the terms of the deal, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will write, produce and edit an additional 30 episodes of the irreverent comedy, which is already the longest-running scripted series in cable prime time, and bringing “South Park’s” grand total to 304 episodes. That’s a whole lot of TV. Mmmkay?

“‘South Park’ today remains as important and influential as any series on any platform and has become one of the most recognizable brands to ever come out of television,” said Doug Herzog, president of Viacom’s Music and Entertainment Group, in a press release.

Hulu will also continue to be the exclusive streaming home of “South Park” for all remaining seasons, extending a deal last year that covered the show’s first 18 seasons.

In 2011, Comedy Central renewed “South Park” for three seasons, keeping it on the air through 2016 and Season 20. The show’s 19th season will premiere in September.

“South Park” premiered on Comedy Central in 1997 and continues to be a ratings draw for the network, finishing 2014 as the top-rated comedy series on cable among adults 18-49 and the ever-elusive demographic of men 18-34.
