‘Parks and Recreation’ cast reveals alternate fates on ‘Late Night’

The finale of “Parks and Recreation” aired on NBC on Tuesday night, and in a bold move, the show went further into the future than it already had in its final season, revealing what the public servants of Pawnee, Ind., would be doing decades from now.

But after the finale on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” some of the cast members revealed failed pitches they’d given for where they wanted to see their characters end up.

For instance, Retta said she wanted her character, Donna, to have sex with noted manly actor Joe Manganiello, despite the fact that her character is married to a different Joe (played by Keegan-Michael Key) in the final season.

But it’s the future, so the rules are different.

“In the future, everyone has sex, everyone’s married,” Amy Poehler offered.

Meanwhile, Chris Pratt suggested a much darker fate for his character, Andy, and Aubrey Plaza’s character, April.

At the end of the series, it would be revealed that April died of a broken heart. And Andy would die because he was left in a hot car with the windows rolled up. Grim, indeed.

The cast members also saved a little surprise just for the “Late Night” audience. While they gathered together to sing goodbye to the horse Lil’ Sebastian, Jim O’Heir, who plays Jerry, and Plaza started making out.

Finally, things went right for good old Jerry. In the end, everything worked out.
