Larry Wilmore analyzes Obama’s ‘aww, snap’ moment at SOTU
While the other news shows packed their post-State of the Union analysis with presidential biographers and political reporters of all stripes, new “Nightly Show” host Larry Wilmore relied on only himself to break down President Obama’s Tuesday night speech at the top of Wednesday’s show.
And he took great relish in Obama’s ad-libbed retort to GOP applause when he said he had no more campaigns to run.
“I know because I won both of them,” Obama replied, prompting Democratic supporters in the chamber to rise to their feet in thunderous applause.
As Wilmore pointed out, California Rep. Maxine Waters had a face that looked like she was watching a “Worldstar video.”
But he did agree, “Barry got his groove back.”
Wilmore continued, “This is amazing. He’s got back his ’04 oratory, but now he’s got six years of executive experience. This is the guy we’ve been waiting for. Finally.”
Indeed, Wilmore pointed out that in addition to Obama’s ad-lib, he also snuck in a wink at the audience and spoke of trips to Mars. What’s going on here?
“Ohhhh, he doesn’t give a ...” Wilmore decided.
With just two more years in the White House, Wilmore doesn’t even care if he won’t get anything done.
“He may not get anything done in the next two years,” Wilmore concluded. “But at least he’ll still be black.”
