Joy Behar announces her ‘View’ departure date
First it was Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s time to say farewell, and now it’s Joy Behar’s. The discussion table on “The View” is starting to get sparse.
On Thursday, ABC announced her final day on “The View” would be Aug. 9. Behar’s departure has long been planned, but she had not yet set an actual final date.
The special episode, titled “This Was Your Life on ‘The View’ Joy Behar,” will be hosted by comedian Mario Cantone and feature a look back at Behar’s most memorable moments from her 16 years on the show, including the time she stormed off the set after arguing with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.
Other Behar friends making personal appearances on the show include “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Susie Essman, Regis Philbin, former “View” moderator Meredith Viera, Joan Rivers, Alan Alda and Tony Bennett.
A series of special pre-taped farewells from celebrities will also be part of the send-off.
According to the New York Post, the special farewell episode was taped Tuesday but won’t air until Aug. 9.
Though Hasselbeck’s chair is being filled by guest hosts, Behar’s chair won’t stay vacant for long. Jenny McCarthy has been announced as her replacement with the show’s new season begins in September. Now it’s just Barbara Walters’ turn, who has announced she will retire from TV in 2014.
