FX’s ‘Louie’ is going on hiatus ... again

It’s happening again, guys: “Louie” is taking an extended hiatus.

FX Networks and FX Productions Chief Executive John Landgraf announced Friday during the Television Critics Assn. media tour that Louis C.K. is taking a break from his eponymous FX series.

When he’ll be back, only C.K. knows. Landgraf, who attributed the pause to scheduling, said he didn’t know when the comedy would return, and that it’s up to the comedian when it does.

“The truth is, I really don’t know,” Landgraf said. “It’s going to be his choice. He could take a six-month hiatus and come back with some new episode. He could take a two-year hiatus.”

Landgraf likened C.K.’s sabbatical to HBO’s understanding with comedian Larry David, star of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

C.K., understandably, has other things to tend to. He is an executive producer on three other projects for FX, including the Zach Galifianakis-led clown comedy “Baskets” and “Better Things,” a show starring longtime collaborator Pamela Adlon as a single mother trying to raise three daughters while also attempting to make it as an actress. Landgraf also noted that the comedian is writing, directing and starring in the upcoming indie film “I Am a Cop” and “another project.”

The comedian has taken a break from “Louie” before. He took a 19-month hiatus from the show beginning in late 2012, returning in 2014 with the show’s fourth season.
