Elmo, Cookie Monster to star in new U.K. children’s show ‘Furchester’
Two of Sesame Street’s favorite characters are hopping the pond to star in a new children’s series called “The Furchester.”
The show will be co-produced by the first-time union of Sesame Workshop and its U.K. equivalent, the BBC’s preschool channel, CBeebies. “The Furchester” will premiere on CBeebies in the fall of 2014.
The show is about an adorable family of goofy monsters who are running an “almost” world-class hotel. That is, it would be world-class if the monster’s incompetent antics didn’t get in the way. Owner Funella Furchester has good intentions but her husband, Furgus Fuzz, feels put upon by the demands of the hotel.

Cookie Monster is in his element at “The Furchester,” having scored a job as a room service and dining room waiter (so one has to wonder how much food actually makes it to paying customers). Elmo is the cousin of Phoebe, the owners’ daughter, and he is on an extended visit. Needless to say he loves answering phones, pushing elevator buttons and just generally being cute.
Like all shows from Sesame Workshop and CBeebies, “The Furchester” is meant to be educational. The fumbles and bumbles of the hotel staff will provide opportunities for kids to use their problem-solving skills.
“The development of ‘The Furchester’ has been a wonderful meeting of creative minds from both CBeebies In House Production and Sesame Workshop. I am delighted to commission this unique show for the CBeebies audience,” said CBeebies Controller, Kay Benbow, in a news release.
