‘Dallas’ canceled on TNT

“Dallas” fans will never find out if Christopher Ewing (Jesse Metcalfe) survived the car bombing in the show’s third-season finale. TNT has canceled the series.

A TNT spokesperson said in a statement, “TNT has decided not to renew ‘Dallas.’ We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Ewing saga. We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show’s creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series.”

The series was a continuation of the original 1980s prime-time soap and even brought back several actors from the first series, including Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing, Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing and Linda Gray as Sue Ellen Ewing. Hagman died during production of the show’s second season.

Ratings dipped over the course of the show’s three seasons, from an average of 4.5 million viewers during the first season to averaging 1.92 million viewers during the third season.

The original “Dallas” was a soap opera juggernaut, lasting 14 seasons on CBS and creating the “Who Shot J.R.?” pop culture sensation in its third season.
