Chelsea Handler will end E! talk show in August after seven-year run
It’s official: Chelsea Handler will leave her E! talk show in August.
The cable network confirmed Wednesday that the tart-tongued host will end her seven-year run on “Chelsea Lately” with a finale on Aug. 26.
E! will mark the occasion with a monthlong celebration of special episodes and surprise guests, the network said.
“I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years,” Handler said in a statement.
Handler’s exit had been rumored for weeks, but Wednesday’s announcement was the first official confirmation.
Handler’s next move is unclear. The last year has seen an unprecedented shuffling of late-night hosts, with Jay Leno leaving “The Tonight Show,” which was then taken over by Jimmy Fallon. David Letterman has also announced his retirement from CBS’ “Late Show,” where Stephen Colbert will sit in the host’s chair next year. Craig Ferguson has said he is leaving CBS’ “Late Late Show” at the end of this year.
Handler has been rumored to be in the running for that last job, and CBS chief Les Moonves has made it known he would like to give a woman the gig.
