Watch Andy Samberg’s opening musical bit at the Emmys
At this year’s Television Critics Assn. press tour in August, FX President John Landgraf remarked, “There is simply too much TV,” a moment that launched a thousand think pieces. And the topic appears to be such a hot button issue that the idea itself was central to Andy Samberg’s Emmy opening number.
The opening features Samberg desperately trying to get caught up on all of the great television on the air at the moment and inevitably falling short, eventually closing himself in a bunker in an attempt to get caught up.

The sketch is funny, but all the more amusing because of how accurate its central thesis is. There’s an outrageous amount of high-quality television on the air right now and the medium’s most avid fans likely feel that trying to keep abreast of it all is a Sisyphean feat. That said, only time will tell whether it’s possible there’s really such a thing as “too much of a good thing.”
In the meantime, at least there’s lots of TV to watch.
