Randy Travis released from hospital

After spending much of July in critical condition with congestive heart failure and a stroke, country singer Randy Travis has finally left the hospital.

The 54-year-old country star was admitted to the hospital in Plano, Texas, after suffering from viral cardiomyopathy, a disease the weakens and enlarges the heart, which led to a heart attack on July 7. While in the hospital, he also suffered a stroke after doctors performed surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

Travis was released to a physical therapy facility, where he’ll continue to receive treatment. He was also given a device to aid his heart in pumping blood.

“Thanks to all the fans and friends for your continued prayers and support as Randy continues on the road to recovery,” said Travis’ fiancee, Mary Davis, in a statement issued by their publicist.

It’s a bit of good news in the midst of a tough spell for the singer, who has notched six Grammys and 16 No. 1 country singles in his three-decade career. Last year, police found him naked after crashing his car and charged him with drunken driving. This year, his brother was also charged with drug trafficking.
