Can we all agree that nothing at Coachella will beat Prince covering Radiohead’s ‘Creep’?
Anyone attending the second weekend of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which kicks off Friday, is almost certainly in for some excellent music, be it Mavis Staples’ heartfelt gospel or the silky dance beats of Disclosure.
And who knows? Perhaps Prince’s tragic death on Thursday will inspire some jaw-dropping tribute to a musician almost everybody loved.
But let’s face facts: Nothing that happens at the Empire Polo Club this weekend is likely to equal Prince’s own visit to Coachella in 2008, when he played a near-legendary set that included a stunning rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep.”
Posted online late last year (reportedly with Prince’s blessing), the performance encapsulates so much of the artist’s one-of-a-kind appeal: his expressive singing, his guitar heroics, his ability to walk across a giant stage as though it were his bedroom.
Hey, Axl: Good luck matching this.
