One Direction’s ‘Best Song Ever’ video: 22 million views in two days
One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” video has bolted out of the gate with viewers, piling up more than 20 million views in its first 48 hours.
The video premiered on Monday and Vevo, the record industry’s official platform for music videos, initially reported that it had eclipsed the previous record of 10.7 million views in 24 hours set by Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop,” with 10.9 million views.
On Thursday, however, Vevo updated that figure, saying final calculations across all its platforms yield a total of 12.3 million views during the first day, and another 10.2 million on the second day.
TIMELINE: Summer’s must see concerts
Although the rapidly popular pop vocal quintet surpassed Cyrus, her video remains a hot property in the music video world. It’s on pace to reach Vevo’s “Certified” status, signifying 100 million views, on Friday, according to a Vevo spokeswoman, making its race to that milestone since its June 19 premiere the fastest ever, getting there in 37 days. That would put it two days ahead of the current record holder, Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie,” which took 39 days.
Meanwhile, One D brings its current tour to Los Angeles for four shows Aug. 7-10 at Staples Center and is slated to open this year’s Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 11 with a performance of “Best Song Ever” at Gibson Amphitheatre.
