New Mariah Carey compilation set for May, linked to Las Vegas run
Ahead of her upcoming Las Vegas residency, Mariah Carey is announcing her first project under her new record deal.
After months of speculation, Carey announced Monday that she would return to Sony Music — where she began her career — and re-team with Antonio “L.A.” Reid. Billboard confirmed Carey’s new multi-album deal last month.
The pop diva’s first project? A greatest-hits package covering the career-defining songs she plans to perform in Vegas.
“Mariah Carey #1 to Infinity” will include the 18 Hot 100 No. 1s she has amassed in her career — “We Belong Together” and “Touch My Body” are among her last big smashes — along with a new tune, “Infinity.”
The album will arrive May 18 through Epic Records/Columbia Records/Sony Legacy (a similar compilation was released in 1998).
Carey will release the new single, which she co-wrote and produced, on April 27 along with a music video directed by frequent collaborator Brett Ratner.
The album coincides with her upcoming headlining residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Set to debut May 6, the show will package those hits along with fan favorites and songs she has yet to perform live.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back together again with Mariah,” Reid said in a statement. “There is really no one who comes close to Mariah as both a songwriter and a singer, and as the world knows, her vocal range is legendary and truly incomparable.
“Her music is indelibly etched into our culture, and she’s shattered so many chart records that she’s now firmly entrenched in the history books. With a fierce and loyal fan base that covers every corner of the globe, I have no doubt Mariah will do it again.”
Dates for the first 18 shows of “Mariah Carey #1’s” are currently on sale.
