Leaving Records opens residency with mesmerizing new electronic tracks

The Los-Angeles based Leaving Records imprint opens a residency at Los Globos in Echo Park on Tuesday night, and as a teaser is offering four mesmerizing new instrumental tracks from its current roster here for the first time.

Co-founded by musician/producer Matthew David McQueen (Matthewdavid) and visual artist Jesselisa Moretti, Leaving earned its reputation first as a cassette label. But over the past seven years it has gradually expanded its reach as the Los Angeles experimental beat scene has blossomed, and the evidence is spread across the residency line-up.

On three consecutive Tuesdays some of the city’s most beguiling electronic musicians will perform, including Lucky Dragons, MNDSGN, M. Geddes Gengras (Sun Araw), DNTEL (with Mitchell Brown, under the moniker Sana Shenai), Ras G (in collaboration with the Koreatown Oddity as 5 Chuckles) and others.

Best known for issuing McQueen’s music as Matthewdavid, Leaving went worldwide a few years ago in partnership with Stones Throw Records, which now distributes the label. In an email, McQueen characterized the Leaving’s philosophy as being constructed “on the foundation of liberated spirit and expression with avant design and aesthetic” and their mission as being part of “an ecstatic quest,” which is an apt description of the music below.

Below, the roster for each night of the residency. More details can be found at the event's Facebook page.
