Harry Styles to make film debut in Christopher Nolan action-thriller ‘Dunkirk’
One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles is set to make his film debut in a World War II action-thriller from Christopher Nolan.
Styles will star in Nolan’s “Dunkirk,” which centers on the British military evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk in 1940, according to Variety.
The singer and newcomer Fionn Whitehead will lead a cast that also includes Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and recent Oscar winner Mark Rylance.
Shooting is expected to begin in May at many of the same locations where the true-life events took place. Nolan will produce the film with his longtime producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas.
In November, Styles and the rest of One Direction released “Made in the A.M.” The album, the group’s fifth, was the first release since former member Zayn Malik departed.
Ahead of the album’s release, the group announced it would be taking a break next year and “Made in the A.M.” would be its last for a while.
Since its 2011 debut “Up All Night,” the group has issued a new album every November and gone on a supporting tour afterward. The group didn’t tour behind the new album.
Although eyes had long been on Styles to be the first to breakout as a solo act from One Direction, the de facto centerpiece of the group was beat by Malik, whose anticipated debut “Mind of Mine” will be released on March 25.
“Dunkirk” will arrive on July 21, 2017.
