Grammys 2015: St. Vincent wins best alternative music album
St. Vincent has won the 2015 Grammy for alternative music album.
It’s the first Grammy win for the project, an alias of the Texas-born singer-songwriter Annie Clark. She first came to prominence in the mid-2000s as a member of the Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens’ band before starting a solo career on the strength of her off-kilter, witty songwriting and considerable instrumental skills on electric guitar.

This award is for her self-titled album, her fourth solo effort and fifth album (she’s co-billed with David Byrne on the 2012 album “Love This Giant”). The self-titled album expanded her sonic palette and brought new attention to the project, including a coveted musical guest spot on “Saturday Night Live.”
St. Vincent beat several other big names for the Grammy, including Alt-J, Arcade Fire, Cage the Elephant and Jack White.
The Grammys are determined by about 13,000 voting members. The eligibility period for nominated recordings was Oct. 1, 2013, to Sept. 30, 2014. The 57th awards are being held at the Staples Center and telecast on CBS-TV. They are broadcast live except for viewers on the West Coast.
