‘Frozen’ soundtrack, first million-seller of 2014, returns to No. 1

“Frozen” is back at No. 1.

After two weeks in which rap albums by first Schoolboy Q and then Rick Ross dominated the Billboard 200, the soundtrack to Disney’s smash-hit animated feature returned to the top spot Wednesday, reflecting sales of 99,000 copies in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Those numbers push the disc’s sales this year past the 1 million mark -- more than any other album has sold so far in 2014, notes Keith Caulfield at Billboard. Since it came out in November, the “Frozen” soundtrack has moved 1.4 million copies in all and has spent six nonconsecutive weeks atop the album chart.

“The last soundtrack to spend more time at No. 1,” Caulfield writes, “was ‘Titanic,’ which sailed at No. 1 for 16 straight weeks in 1998.”

Behind “Frozen” on this week’s chart, Luke Bryan’s “Spring Break 6 ... Like We Ain’t Ever” -- the latest in a series of EPs by the pleasure-seeking country star -- came in at No. 2 with 74,000 copies sold. Last week’s No. 1, Ross’ “Mastermind,” fell to No. 3 on sales of 49,000.

Additional albums entering the chart include soul singer Aloe Blacc’s “Lift Your Spirit” (at No. 4), veteran rockers 311’s “Stereolithic” (at No. 6), a compilation from Lil Wayne’s Young Money label (at No. 7) and country singer Sara Evans’ “Slow Me Down” (at No. 9).
