Flavor Flav arrested after speeding in New York, police say
Public Enemy hype-man and reality TV show star Flavor Flav was arrested Jan. 9 in Valley Stream, N.Y., after officers said they caught him speeding and driving with a suspended license, according to New York State Police.
According to the police statement, the rapper and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, whose real name is William Drayton, was pulled over after officers clocked him going 79 mph in a 55-mph zone, and he was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation and traffic violations.
Police said that he had 16 suspensions on his license and that a “small amount” of marijuana had been found in his vehicle. He was released to attend his mother’s funeral, the police report said.
Drayton, 54, now lives in Las Vegas, and he is scheduled to return to court to address the charges on Jan. 28.
After gaining prominence in the 1990s as a member of Public Enemy, Flav went on to star in several VH1 reality TV series, including “The Surreal Life,” “Strange Love” and “Flavor of Love.”
