Fiona Apple arrested on drug charges
Try to restrain yourselves from making obvious “Criminal” jokes: Fiona Apple was arrested Wednesday in Texas on charges of possessing hashish.
The singer-songwriter, on tour to promote her acclaimed album “The Idler Wheel...,” was reportedly nicked by local police in the town of Sierra Blanca and booked at the Hudspeth County jail. Apple’s publicist has told Spin they don’t plan to comment on the matter.
Apple, who played the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles last Friday, was en route to perform at the Moody Theater for Austin City Limits Live tonight, and while there’s no update yet on how the arrest might affect that show, tickets currently are on sale at the ACL site.
The town of Sierra Blanca has a history of arresting musicians on drug charges. Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson were booked on similar possession charges there.
Nelson’s case earned national attention when the prosecutor, apparently a fan of the “Red Headed Stranger,” promised leniency if he performed “Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain” for the court. The judge later said it was a joke, but that sounds like a fair judicial trade to us.
