Punk band X, wrapping 35th-anniversary tour, has L.A. show Friday

Veteran L.A. punk band X is wrapping up its 35^th anniversary tour with a spate of holiday performances up and down the group’s home state, including shows Friday, Dec. 21, at the Fonda in Hollywood and Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.

The seasonal-song possibilities boggle the mind: Guitarist Billy Zoom strafing his way through “Santa Claus is Coming To Town”; D.J. Bonebrake throttling his kit for “The Little Drummer Boy”; singers Exene Cervenka and John Doe applying their signature off-kilter harmonies to “Baby, It’s [Expletive] Cold Outside”?

Well, forget all that.

Even though the holidays are thoroughly upon us, X will be X regardless of the Yuletide season, Pop & Hiss is told. Last year past the band incorporated seasonal music into its December shows, but apparently weren’t thrilled with the result, so this year it’s the core X repertoire they’ll be drawing from.

In addition to the L.A. and O.C. tour stops, this final 2012 spate of performances, for which X is being joined by the Father Figures and Scorpions vs. Tarantula, will visit the Casbah in San Diego on Sunday, Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield on Wednesday, the Ace of Spades in Sacramento on Dec. 27 and two nights at Slims in San Francisco Dec. 28 and 29.

But please — at least let Billy Zoom loose on “Run Rudolph Run”!
