Echo Park punk venue Pehrspace gets lease termination notice from landlord
Just days after the Smell received news that it could be demolished, another beloved punk and experimental venue may be in peril.
Pehrspace, the longstanding DIY venue on the southern edge of Echo Park, posted an ominous note that it had received a 60-day notice terminating the month-to-month tenancy on its current space.
The letter received Monday, from the venue’s landlords, Echo Park Village and Delta Management Inc., could endanger the venue, which regularly hosts ramshackle but accessible all-ages shows, art exhibits and other cultural events.
The volunteer-run venue, founded in 2006, was named Best All Ages Venue by LA Weekly in 2014.
Representatives for Pehrspace and Echo Park Village did not immediately return messages about the lease termination.
Earlier this month, the venue posted a note that its building had been sold, and it was “nervous” about the potential impact on the venue.
